Aug 2008

27 Aug Wed day 87 continued

Today Pisels and us drove around the local area to see the sights. Lots of "Sea Captains Homes" built in the 1800's. Huge places with carriage houses and all. Drove by the "Bush" compound. Saw George H.W. Bush come back from golfing and get ready for a fishing outing. Lots of Black clad Secret Service roaming around the bay and complex. We went out to dinner tonight with the Soverign's & Pisels at Arundel Wharf. Sat at a SPECIAL table looking across the harbor. Excellent food, service and fun.

Drive to Kennebunkport, Maine with a stop in Portland to visit Alta Sturgis. Wonderful Lady whom we just found out is 95yrs. young. Still very vibrant and smart as a whip.
Had lunch with her in a nice restaurant she knew and she took us touring to see 2 big Lighthouses there . One of them, the Light at Portland Head, is said to be the most photographed Lighthouse in the coundtry. Arrived at Kennebunkport, Red Apple Campground about 6pm

22 Aug Fri. day 82 thru Aug 24th

Drive to Booth Bay, Maine. Took Hwy. 1 to the South. Beautiful coast line drive, end at Shore Hills RV park. Great park......we get two sights with MINI decks. After we're parked we take a quick drive into the town for our first visit.

23 Aug Sat. day 83
Back into town this morning, jumped on a TROLLY TOUR. Seeing the sights with someone that knows the area & History is always a plus. Had dinner at McSeaGulls. Gary and Myron had AWSOME PRIME RIB, Barbara & Gayla had wonderful Seafood.

24 Aug Sun. day 84
Drive into Bath, Maine. Took another Trolly Tour ( they are fun and informative) Open air.
Saw one street that had about 8 SEARS CATALOG HOMES. iN THE 30'S & 40"S you could order a house from Sears. They would send out a section, then after you completed that kit, they would send out the next. Then would keep doing this until the house was finished. Nice looking houses, but all alike. The Movie (Message in a Bottle) starts with 2 scenes shot here in Bath. One on the porch where she is eating breakfast and the other is the street where the star went jogging. This evening we watched the movie in The Pisel Coach. The town once had a population of about 40,000 people, most were employed by the shipyard. Now there is only about 9600 people in town.

21 Aug Thur. day 81

Problem with electric hot water heater, worked on that after running for parts. Semi-successful. Electric doesn't work, propane does. It's a putter day, clear and 80degrees.
Happy hour and games at Sovereign's . Preparing coach to leave in the am. Headed for Booth Bay, Maine for a few days. Today, Gayla worked on the computer for hours trying to finish blog and learning how to insert pictures...................not quite there yet. Will keep trying.
